Key Club FAQ
Q: What will I do as a member?
A: Key Club members attend monthly meetings on every third Tuesday of the month on Zoom to maintain their standing as an active member of the club. They sign in and get information to choose to sign up for various events in the school and community. To be considered an active member, you are required to get 60 service points each semester throughout the school year. Every 15 minutes of community service is 1 point. In addition, we will occasionally have fun meetings where you can get to know other members, plan your own service events, and earn points.
Q: What if I can't make it to the monthly meetings?
A: This means that you must be responsible and find out what you missed. The presentation slides from each meeting are posted under the "Meeting Dates" tab to facilitate you in doing so. However, it is strongly recommended that you attend all meetings in order to earn service points. Members are required to attend at least 2 meetings per semester!
Q: Key Club is supposed to promote leadership. How will I get leadership experience as a member?
A: The biggest way to show leadership as a member is by chairing an event. All Key Club members will be required to chair one event in order to graduate with their Key Club medal, but the executive board and faculty advisers are happy to help guide each student in the process. We want to help you become the most effective leader that you can be!
Q: Why do I have all of these fees to pay?
A: The fees cover your dues for Key Club International, as well as t-shirts and other minor events that Key Club hosts throughout the year.
Q: What are some of the long-term benefits of becoming a member of Key Club?
A: As being a member in the largest high school organization worldwide, it is a great activity to list on your college application. Though our school district does not, many other high schools require a certain number of service hours in order to graduate. Colleges see service as a very important part of high school. Also, there are numerous college scholarships and awards offered through Key Club International and many other organizations offer scholarships for community service.
Q: What is Key Club International?
A: Key Club International (KCI) encompasses the entire world with almost 215,000 members in 16 nations and 4,500 schools. KCI is run by students, with leadership at an international, regional, and club level. There are worldwide conventions every summer.
